About the bursary
The Primary Bursary covers the ordinary costs of primary school that stop being ordinary when money is short. Uniforms and shoes that fit. The excursion everybody else is going on. The camp in Year 6 that a child remembers for the rest of their life.
Nominations come from the school principal rather than from families. Principals know which students are missing out, and the nomination route removes the need for a family to identify themselves as needing help.
How it works in practice
Funds are held by the school and drawn against as costs arise. No child is identified to their peers, and no family is asked to produce receipts. Schools report back annually on how the funds were used.
